Our story

Founded 1979. Built on care.

The East Lee County Improvement Association was formed in February 1979 by Veronica Shoemaker, Melvin Morgan, and Pat McCutcheon. It became the Dunbar Improvement Association by December of that year. In August 1985, the Association entered a HUD mortgage to build Palm City Senior Citizens & Handicapped Home — today's Palm City Garden Apartments.

"To promote the welfare of the elderly and handicapped by providing housing facilities and services especially designed to meet their physical, social, and psychological needs — and to promote their health, security, happiness, and usefulness in longer living."

— Mission statement, 1983
